We came by for dinner after an event on a Wednesday afternoon. When we walked in, we were told they were out of pizza dough before we were seated and decided to stay and enjoy dinner anyways as we were looking at the pastas. As we were seated we were greeted by Brian who was our server for the evening. He was a delight from beginning to end, making recommendations, promptly getting us things as he helped all of his other tables going in and out. We started with the squash blossoms and the arinchini both of which were great. I will say for the size of the squash blossom I did wish that there was more filling in them, but it was night and crispy and full of flavor. We also got the ceasar salad that tasted grilled and left in wedges. The presentation was stunning and with the dressing it was great. For our entrees my husband got the paradelle short rib bolognes, and it was delish! I ended up with the truffle tortilini and had no regrets either. The past was cook great and the flavors were all present. I think the only downside of our experience was that it seemed as they were running out of a lot of things. From beer to dishes, to pizza dough of which was a good chuck of their menu. But overall we had a great time! P.s if you're a wine member you can totally claim a bottle to enjoy with your meal. We tried to give Brian our number in the account but not sure what happened there. We were able to claim some bottles after dinner to bring home to enjoy though.
Nice atmosphere, chopped salad was good. I ordered the extra salmon, but the salad was big enough without it. The Trufle pasta was excellent. I am a beer drinker and they had 3 draft beers. They also had a few bottled beers.
This place was beautiful inside! Loved the open kitchen. Most of our food was great! The Cesar salad and Arancini were amazing, loved the pizza. The chicken parm was spot on, but my husband did not enjoy his meal, which was the hand rolled three cheese Cavatelli... said very plain and nothing special to it... the chocolate hazelnut cake was to die for! Other than that, was shocked that I got a whole drink spilt on me (by my son) and no one stopped to grab napkins or towel to help me, my husband had to grab some off the table behind him.
Cooper's Hawk started with a stand-alone store in Orland Park, IL and has literally exploded across the Midwest over the last 20 years. The reasons for this success are simple... start with consistently good food combined with good service and throw in a novelty like hand crafted wines... done, and done. We've been wine club members for years with Cooper's Hawk, and even though there are much better (and more expensive) bottles of wine out there, Cooper's Hawk hits a sweet spot for us... offering good bottles of wine at an affordable cost. When we heard about their recent collaboration with Chef Luca Issa - Piccolo Buco - in nearby OakBrook, we knew we needed to check it out. Like many other popular restaurants surrounding OakBrook Mall, Piccolo Buco occupies a storefront facing a parking lot. They offer a small section of outdoor seating, but unless you want to spend your meal inhaling car exhaust and dealing with nearby traffic, I would sit indoors. The restaurant itself is actually pretty quaint, and casual. My wife and I opted for lunch at the bar on a Saturday. We were wearing jeans and t-shirts and felt completely at home. It was brightly lit, open and comfortable. Unlike Cooper's Hawk, the menu at Piccolo Buco focuses on brick oven pizzas, a nice selection of Italian apps and salads and some pastas and main dishes. We asked our bartender for recommendations and she quickly shifted the focus to the pizzas - which is what they are "known for". We decided to split the Four Cheese Arancini "Supplí" appetizer and a Charred Pepperoni Pizza. Both were delicious. The Arancini featured 5 small deep fried balls of rice, cheese and sausage on a bed of marinara sauce and topped with fresh basil. Very good, but if you plan on getting one for the table, it's really only going to feed two people. The Charred Pepperoni Pizza featured a truffle honey topping that really peaked the whole "sweet & salty" thing that so many restaurants are focusing on these days. The crust was super thin on the inside and perfectly doughy and chewy on the crust - with the nice char that was advertised. Also very good. The reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is simply that Piccolo Buco just isn't breaking any new ground here. Our food was very good, but nothing blew us away and the portions could've been a bit bigger. The service was also very good, so no complaints there. I guess it's just that the whole gourmet brick oven pizza novelty has been well exercised by so many spots all throughout the city and suburbs, and even though Piccolo Buco is doing a nice job, it was really just very good, but not great. That being written, if you're in the wine club for Cooper's Hawk, it's definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.
Returned a second time. Definitely an improvement!! Food was very good. Front greeter and wait staff provided great service.
Piccolo Buco exceeded all of our expectations! The moment we walked in, everything, from the service to the food and the atmosphere, was exceptional. We started with the Crispy Stuffed Squash Blossoms, which we highly recommend trying as they were unforgettable. For our main course, we ordered the Classic Margherita pizza with a classic red sauce, which was really good but not particularly outstanding. The Baked Eggplant Parmesan was cheesy and flavorful, although we wished it had been a bit crispier. Nonetheless, it was still delicious and we would order it again. To top off the night, we indulged in some desserts, including gelato, hazelnut cake, and tiramisu, all of which were fantastic. Overall, Piccolo Buco is a must-visit!
Loved coming here for lunch on a Monday. Even through a staffing crisis, the restaurant was able to properly function and serve my family and I. Piccolo is an authentic Italian restaurant and everything is made from scratch. I ordered the Yellow tomato bisque, Fungo pizza and the seasonal house made crostada (apple was this season's pick). Oh. My. gosh. The breading on the pizza was perfect. Super dippable in the bisque (which I did) and seasoned. I liked the mesh of the truffle and mushroom. The pizza also wasn't too greasy. I left full and satisfied. The bisque is a dish you'd want if you're sick or just want to warm you up. Very tasty and light on the tongue. I'd get all of my items again should I return or be asked for a recommendation.
